When geography is the wall

The crisis that dramatises this: Manoeuvre Narrow Margin.

Every other impact family assumes the loss happens to something digital. This one ignores the digital layer entirely. The clacks flash, the golems wait, and the city still starves, because the physical inputs they were built to process are stuck five miles out in the rain, sorted into long stationary lines by the width of a road. The adversary needs no password and no poisoned ledger, only three things that cannot pass each other in a narrow space.

The shape of it

The weaponisation of physical constraint. A supply line optimised for efficiency runs through a small number of irreplaceable points: a pass, a river mouth, a single bridge, a customs gate. Each is a concentration of throughput, and each fails the same way, by being blocked. The blockage can be a shattered axle, a grounded barge, or a compliance requirement amended three days ago. None of it looks like an attack, and all of it moves the supplies from in transit to stationary, which is the only state that does the work.

Where it shows

The early signals read as administrative friction and bad luck. A wagon breaks down where the cutting narrows. A barge grounds on a mudbank. A customs queue slows because the paperwork changed. Each has an innocent reading, and the innocent readings are free, until the locations line up: the blockages sit at exactly the points where the geography offers no alternative, and the timing is too tidy to be weather. The digital monitoring stays green throughout, because nothing digital is wrong.

Countermoves

Clearance against preservation: a grounded barge can be cleared by force in minutes, at the cost of the asset, the goodwill of whoever owned it, and a public signal that the holder is panicking. The secondary-route exposure: rerouting onto unmonitored alternative lanes relieves the choke and, in the same motion, maps the emergency infrastructure for whoever is watching, and those routes can be pre-seeded with delays of their own. The administrative choke: a compliance loop genuine in everything but intent stalls movement legally, so breaking it takes someone senior enough to sign an override the registries will later treat as the violation. Resilience here is width, redundancy in the physical layer that does nothing on an ordinary day and is the whole of the defence on a bad one.
